The cheapest way to get to Budapest
Kiev – Chop – Zahon – Budapest
- Train No.081K Kiev 20:37 Chop 12:59. The cost of tickets in a reserved carriage is 280 UAH, in a compartment – 620 UAH. At the Chop station, passengers go through border and customs control, which takes some time – about two hours.
- Train No.647L Chop 16:12 – Zahon 15:32 (local time), cost about 90 UAH.
- Zahon 16:03 – Budapest 20:39, the train runs almost every hour, the first departs at 4:05, and the last at 20:03. You can check the schedule on the website.
Free train travel for Ukrainians continues to operate in Hungary, but only if they have issued temporary protection in Hungary. For others, free travel is valid only on the Zahon – Budapest train. Every day, passengers from Ukraine can get to Budapest by two direct trains from Mukachevo:

- No.31 Latoritsa Mukachevo (platform West) 16:30 – Budapest-Nyugati 22:37

Kiev – Budapest – Vienna
Ukrzaliznytsia launched a new direct international train No.143/146 “Vienna – Kiev – Vienna” via Budapest on December 10, 2023 with a transfer at the Chop station. The two trains will connect in such a way that passengers will spend the night part of the trip (Kiev, Rivne, Lutsk, Lviv – Chop) in sleeping cars of Ukrzaliznytsia, and the daytime segment (Chop – Budapest – Vienna) in modern sitting cars of the 1st or 2nd class of the Hungarian train. Route:
- Train No. 745 “Kiev – Uzhgorod”, departure at 16:38 (from Lutsk at 17:45, from Rivne at 19:02 under No.368), Lviv 23:31 – 00:23, arrival at Chop at 06:20.
- At Chop station, passengers undergo border and customs operations and transfer to train No.146 Chop – Vienna, departure from Chop daily at 08:23, Budapest -Kelete 14:20 – 14:40, arrival at Vienna Main Station at 17: 20.
