How to get to Slovakia by land transport
By direct bus
- Uzhgorod – Kosice, departure at 20:40 from the Uzhgorod bus station, and arrives in Kosice at 23:50, ticket price – from 450 UAH (average price – 750), ticket for today’s date will cost from 1740 UAH.
- Kiev – Bratislava, travel time 32 hours, cost – from 2000 UAH.
- Poltava – Zvolen, travel time about 40 hours, departure at 09:00, and arrival in Zvolen at about 23:00 the next day, ticket price from 4000 UAH and above, with transfers (usually one or three maximum).
Buses depart from various regional centers such as Kiev, Uzhgorod, Poltava, Lviv and other cities. The cost of tickets will be lower for early booking, and also depends on the distance of the trip and the comfort level of the bus. There are many carrier options on the Internet, and you can also search for them in Telegram and Facebook groups. Passengers usually board at the bus station.

By trains
Traveling by train is inexpensive, and during the trip you can relax while enjoying the views of European landscapes. Trains can be reached daily, twice a day.
Train route from Ukraine with transfer to Mukachevo:
- Train No.004P Zaporizhia – Uzhgorod departs at 17:53 and arrives in Uzhgorod at 14:27 the next day. The train has carriages with a branded compartment, the ticket price starts from UAH 1,431, the compartment is UAH 968, the reserved seat costs UAH 380 per seat.
- Train No. 961 Mukachevo – Kosice. Departs at 14:48 and arrives at 18:17. The cost of a 2nd class ticket is 493 UAH. The second train departs at 18:16 and arrives in Kosice at 21:33.
- Several trains run from Kosice to Bratislava every day, the journey time is about 5 hours, the ticket price starts from 33 euros.
Ukrzaliznytsia has simplified the purchase of transfer tickets to Kosice from Dnipro, Zaporizhia and Lviv. You just need to select your place of departure on the website or in the application, and specify Kosice as the final destination.
Also, as an option, you can take a taxi from Uzhgorod to the Slovak border — it will cost about 500 UAH, cross the border on foot and take a ride, blablacar to Kosice, having previously agreed with the driver. And there you can take a train or bus ticket to the city you need.

To Slovakia via Moldova
There are convenient routes from the southern regions of Ukraine to Slovakia via Modova. Wizz Air and Ryanair airlines operate flights from Chisinau, but all flights will be with transfers. If you book a ticket in advance, about a month in advance, its cost can be about 3236 UAH (71 euros), the average price is 5116 UAH (113 euros) and higher in one direction.
To Slovakia via Romania
There are three airports in Romania that are convenient for Ukrainians to use: in Bucharest, Iasi and Suceava, there are also flights to Slovakia from Craiova. Mostly flights with transfers, but there are no direct ones. Approximate prices of flights to Slovakia:
- Suceava – Poprad — from 60 euros,
- Bucharest – Bratislava — from 55 euros,
- Craiova – Bratislava — from 59 euros.

Wizz Air and Ryanair airlines operate flights to Slovakia via Hungary
From Budapest to Bratislava, again, all flights will be with transfers, which is not always convenient. You can still get from Hungary to Slovakia by train, bus or hitchhiking, and since these are neighboring countries with short distances between cities, the road will take only a few hours.

To Slovakia via Poland
There are daily flights from Warsaw to Kosice. Both direct flights and transfers are available, ticket prices start from 77 euros.
Flights on the Katowice – Bratislava route include a transfer in Milan, and their schedule varies depending on the day of the week. The lowest price in September ranges from 42 to 52 euros one way.
You can book a hotel in Slovakia with a discount of up to -65% on the website.
Thus, if you are traveling from Ukraine, the train is the best choice for those who are looking for a combination of economy and convenience, and the bus is for those who value flexibility and a convenient schedule.
